Symbolism

A type and movement in poetry, it describe thoughts and feelings
in not a direct way; by using representations & signs.

Usage of colors,seasons, words, characters,
actions, or other things that are representative
are use in a poem to show symbolism.


FOR EXAMPLE:

---------------------------
the cross
can represent suffering & christianity.

Winter represents aging, decay, and death;
spring represent energy, birth, and hope;
summer is symbolic of childhood, fun, and laughter;
autumn stands for maturity, wisdom, and fulfillment.

Metaphor

A metaphor is a comparison made between two unlike things that actually have something important in common.



FOR EXAMPLE:

Joy

Just when you thought

that winter

would be here forever,

that it could never end,

you saw:

Amidst the frozen white,

a tiny tip of green,

first blade of grass,

the messenger of spring.
